England is one of the most historically interesting and vibrant countries anywhere in the world. That is why those heading on a vacation to England should visit some of the prime historical sites as part of their trip. With imposing castles, magnificent country estates and fascinating museums history buffs will certainly be entertained whilst visiting England; whether travelling on your own, as a couple or with the family it is hoped that the details of the following sights will give tourists essential vacation ideas.

Regarded by many to be the most marvellous castle in all of England, Warwick is a must see example of medieval castle construction and fortification. Literally it is step back in time, giving visitors the chance to truly experience the world of knights, kings and nobles. The history of Warwick Castle is unbelievably interesting; originally built by William the Conqueror in 1088 it passed hands to various Earls of Warwick and even the Count of Anjou in 1153. Its most famous resident however was Richard Neville, more commonly known as Warwick the Kingmaker. This name has been given to Neville due to immense power during the fifteenth century and the Wars of the Roses, enabling to place various kings onto the English throne for his own political ends. Today it remains one of the best kept examples of a castle in the land.

Travel and Vacation Planning

By , September 3, 2011 3:46 pm

Many people will agree that planning a vacation can be as exciting as the vacation itself. Also, planning for travel or for a vacation can involve the whole family or at least all those that are going to be traveling. There are a few steps that one can take to improve his or her vacation as a whole, which revolve around meticulous planning. Although one does not have to imitate Clark Griswald in the many National Lampoon movies, he or she can create a rudimentary schedule and lists of everywhere he or she will travel along with important addresses and numbers. A simple list can be not only a time saver, but a money saver as well.

Lists: Destinations

Although everyone that will be traveling should know where their destination lies, it is good practice to create a list of the destinations as well as arrival times. Understanding where one will be traveling to, and when one will be arriving, will help everyone plan their activities accordingly. For instance, if you are traveling from the United States to England and will not be arriving until ten o’clock at night, you would not want to plan on visiting Buckingham Palace until the next day. Although such scheduling seems obvious, by scheduling your next day’s activities you can better understand your limitations as to what you can see and when you can see it. This will help travelers avoid scheduling activities that can not be accomplished as well as give one an… Read the rest

Dorset Secret Travel Tip – Smugglers Inn, Osmington and Ringstead Bay

By , August 23, 2010 10:57 am

Smuggling is a fascinating part of Dorset’s history and the county’s World Heritage coastline is littered with smugglers coves. This travel tip article is about an exhilarating, yet undemanding coastal path walk. It starts in one such cove, hidden amongst some of England’s most magnificent coastal scenery. It then takes you to a pretty beach in a tranquil bay, before returning to a real smugglers inn which is one of the most picturesque traditional English pubs you’ll find anywhere.

The walk starts at the pub which is unsurprisingly named, “The Smugglers Inn”. You will find it by driving westwards, along the A353, towards Weymouth. About six miles before Weymouth, and after passing a left hand turning, signposted Ringstead Bay, take the next left which is signposted Osmington Mills. There is also a helpful secondary signpost labeled “Smugglers Inn”. Continue along the lane as it meanders fairly steeply downhill for about three quarters of a mile. You will see the Smugglers Inn at the foot of the hillside on your left and the car park on higher ground to the right. You park here. At the time of writing it is a free car park but please understand that it is intended for pub patrons, so remember to have a drink or meal in the inn when you return later.

Walk down the steps from the car park to the inn and look for a narrow path that leads along the left side of the building and goes to… Read the rest
